What we'll talk about
Bicycles are used more and more for commuting, shopping or recreation. But a bicycle also requires maintenance. Much of this you can often do yourself!
Do you want to learn to do this or do you need tips? What's the law? What about tires, brakes, lighting, gears, maintenance and lubrication? In this useful workshop you will get more information about it. Tailor-made for beginners!
We will only be able to cover some of the basics during this 50-minute session. Unfortunately you cannot bring your bike, but there will be a bike with the speaker to demonstrate on!

Maarten Pardaens
Maarten Pardaens is one of the regular bike instructors at velo. Velo provide training, work experience and employment opportunities to people who face barriers to the labor market. At velo, they link high-quality support, focused on personal development and paid employment, with an ecological, human centered and socially engaged business approach.
After working as a sports teacher for more than 20 years, he chose to follow his passion. That is anything to do with cycling. The bicycle is by far the most efficient means of transportation, it is simple, healthy, quiet, has a limited impact on the environment and takes you everywhere at a pace that allows you to fully absorb your surroundings. He trained as a bicycle repairer and has now been working for Velo vzw for five years. In a nice workshop in the center of Leuven, he helps students self-repair their bikes. Outside of that, he gives the basic course in bicycle repair to two groups of inmates in the Leuven prison.
There are no reservations, it's a first come first served event, so be there on time to avoid disappointment!
