What we'll talk about
Based on a number of excerpts and guided by targeted questions, we will engage in a conversation together. About the texts, about memories and about your stories. In this way we give meaning to what we read, we make the reading process more visual and together we go in search of the beauty of language.
This workshop focuses on NT2 learners in level B1 or above.
Everyone is welcome: readers, non-readers, young people, seniors, non-native speakers, local residents,... Reading together is really possible with everyone and in every group. Knowledge of literature, books or writers is not necessary at all. The small piece of text or poem at the reading moment itself: that is what it is about.
Your host(s)
Jolien De Decker
Jolien De Decker has been with the Institute for Living Languages (ILT) since 2015, where she teaches, but is also involved in the development of digital tools for language learning and the organization of (cultural) activities, among other things. In 2018, together with Vika Pukhyr and a group of enthusiastic students, she founded KraNT2, an online journal for and by NT2 learners. In 2024, she and colleague Helga van Loo published the book Dag Vreemde man, with exercises for non-native speakers around Dutch-language music.
According to Jolien, love of language is an important key to success in the language acquisition process. Music, literature and poetry can play a powerful role in this process. From that conviction, she took the course Reading Together with Ilona Plichart, which will be the basis for this workshop.

There are no reservations, it's a first come first served event, so be there on time to avoid disappointment!
