What we'll talk about
This interactive musical workshop with Czech multi-instrumentalist Jiří Slavík will cover one of the most famous European popular dances, which has its origins in today's Czech Republic - the Polka. There are numerous pieces written in this style, from the most famous Czech composers (Dvorak, Smetana, Janacek) as well as from slightly less extraordinary musicians from various village brass bands. Since it's creation, polka has spread out in the world, created its own local variants and influenced other musical genres. In this workshop the participants will be able to find out more about this historical journey through the actual music, hear various musical examples from different periods of time as well as learn how to sing and dance polka themselves.
This workshop was put forward by Vlaczek Flemish-Czech-Slovak Association. Learn more about their organization here: vlaczek.be/about-us/
