What we'll talk about

Effective communication with someone who is still learning a language requires patience, empathy, and a thoughtful approach. To ensure a positive interaction, it is important to use clear, simple language while fostering a supportive environment. This approach not only helps non-native speakers understand you more easily but also encourages them to practice, improve, and build their confidence in using the language.

In this workshop, you will be introduced to a variety of practical tips and strategies for communicating effectively with language learners. We will discuss how to avoid complex language that may hinder understanding and instead focus on using straightforward language that is easy to grasp. Additionally, we will explore the use of supportive tools, like visual aids and gestures, which can be invaluable in bridging the gap when words alone fall short.

Once you have learned these techniques, we will put them into practice in real-world scenarios, giving you the chance to apply them and gain hands-on experience in communicating with language learners.

Just after this workshop, in the same room, will be a Dutch conversation group for NT2 learners, the perfect opportunity to put everything you just learned with Kim into practice! If you join that session, just tell the speaker that you are a native speaker and there to help out the language learners.
